The Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation is proud to announce the
opening of the Fezile Dabi Stadium as part of the program of the Premier of the Free State, Mr ES Magashule. The stadium will be opened in remembrance of Fezile Dabi.
The Fezile Dabi stadium has been developed to cater for the sporting needs of the Tumahole community in Parys. The stadium was built at a cost of R98,000,000.00.
The stadium is built to host soccer matches and also has an indoor conference facility. This 15 000 seat stadium will enable the Tumahole community to host large soccer matches, sport and cultural events.
Mr Fezile Dabi was an ANC leader who lived in Tumahole, Parys. He was also an author, poet, philosopher, mentor, husband and father, who passionately fought for freedom during the struggle. He is remembered today not only for what he believed in but is also widely known for philosophic words. He is still inspiring people today with a poem he wrote and which was printed on his funeral letter.
“There is nothing in all the world greater than freedom, It is worth praying for; it is worth losing your job for; it is worth going to jail for. I would rather be a free pauper than a rich slave. I would rather die in abject poverty with my convictions
Than live in riches with the lack of self-respect”
The Fezile Dabi stadium will be opened as follows:
