The Minister of Energy, Ms E D Peters identified two areas she would visit and conduct the official ‘Sod Turning’ as part of the implementation of the Integrated Resources Plan (IRP). On the 14th March 2013, the minister will first visit Metro Winds farm outside Port Elizabeth, at 10:00 and on the 15th March 2013 the Minister will visit the Thyspunt area under Kouga municipality.
The 32-turbine, Red Cap Kouga wind farm is on track to go operational in the final quarter of 2014 and will generate 80MW of clean and renewable power. This turbine is expected to inject in excess of R250 million into community upliftment projects to be distributed through the Red Cap Kouga Community Development Trust.
The Minister will be joined by MEC for Economic Development and Environmental Affairs Mcebisi Jonas and Kouga Mayor Booi Koerat.
