Official opening of the Capricorn House of Traditional Leaders

The Executive Mayor of Capricorn District, Councilor Lawrence Mapoulo will officially open the House of Traditional Leaders in Botlokwa, Molemole Municipality.

Department of Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs (COGHSTA) views the role of traditional leadership as key to system of governance and will continuously work with them for development of rural communities.

The objectives and functions of the Council as per Traditional Leaders Act [No. 10 of 1997] are:

  • to promote the role of traditional leadership within a democratic constitutional dispensation
  • to enhance unity and understanding among traditional communities and
  • to enhance cooperation between the Council and the various Houses with a view to addressing matters of common interest.

The Limpopo House of Traditional Leadership Act summarized the mandate of traditional leaders as  to advice government in developing policies impacting on traditional communities, to advice government in the development of legislation which affects rural communities, to participate in national and international programs geared towards the development of rural communities and to participate in national and provincial initiatives meant to monitor, evaluate and review government programs in rural areas.
