Media reports indicate that millions of young people eligible to vote are still not registered to vote for the upcoming 2014 general elections. As part of its campaign to encourage more young people to appreciate the importance of registering and voting in the upcoming general elections, National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) Executive Chairperson Yershen Pillay will on Sunday, 10 November 2013 go to the Centurion Testing Grounds in Pretoria to check his registration status and register as a voter in the area where he resides. While Acting Chief Executive Officer Ayanda Makaula will be registering to vote at the Southernwood Ann Bryant Art Gallery in East London in the Eastern Cape.
“Most young people have not realised the significance of exercising their right to vote. To some the different messages have not necessarily filtered through. I believe that if we stand up and act, leading from the front, the rest of the youth will follow suit,” says Pillay.
“It is important that we rally all young South Africans to go and register to vote to be eligible to cast their vote in the upcoming elections. We view this as important in ensuring a vibrant and inclusive democracy,” concludes Pillay
NYDA Chairperson will do his voter registration as follows:
Date: Sunday 10 November 2013
Venue: Centurion Testing Grounds – Nellmapius Road
Time: 09h30 to 11h30
