Northern Cape Department of Transport, Safety and Liaison to host Taxi Indaba

The Northern Cape Department of Transport, Safety and Liaison will tomorrow, 2 May 2014 in Kimberley host a Taxi Indaba for taxi industry stakeholders in the province.

Over the past few years the Department of Transport, Safety and Liaison has built a good working relationship with SANTACO Northern Cape and other taxi associations. To further strengthen this relationship, it is from time to time necessary to address a collective from the Taxi Industry on various issues and to pave the way forward.

The Minister of Transport Ms Peters, the Northern Cape MEC of Transport, Safety and Liaison MEC Jack, the President of SANTACO Mr Taaibosch, the first Deputy President of SANTACO Mr Nkonki, 120 taxi operators/owners, and various senior officials of the Department of Transport, Safety and Liaison will attend the Taxi Indaba.

MEC Jack has recently been approached by a number of Taxi Associations as well as SANTACO Northern Cape to ask for intervention on a number of operational issues, ranging from operating licences to law enforcement.

In light of this, the department saw it fit to convene a Taxi Indaba to create a platform for the leadership of the different taxi associations to formally interact with each other as well as with the department. The Taxi Indaba will seek solutions to the different challenges encountered by taxi operators, improve the relationship among the different associations and highlight achievements that can be taken forward, as the industry has come a long way.
