North West Provincial Legislature to host Women Sectoral Parliament

In commemorating the National Women’s month, the North West Provincial Legislature Speaker, Hon. Susan Dantjie, will host a Women Sectoral Parliament that will engage North West women in a dialogue with the Minister of Social Development, Hon. Bathabile Dlamini on Friday, 15 August 2014 in the Legislature Chamber at 10h00.

The theme of the Sectoral Parliament; “The Role of Women in Moving South Africa Forward” will be discussed under the following topic; “Women Defeating Poverty, Unemployment and Inequality in Moving South Africa Forward.”

The dialogue will outline the achievements attained in women emancipation and empowerment, the challenges and complexities that still exist and develop a program of action moving forward.

The event is also aimed at soliciting mechanisms of addressing the underlying phenomenon of poverty amongst women and creating a sustainable working programme which will be informed by the inputs from the women’s interaction with various stakeholders, provincial departments, Members of the Provincial Legislature and the Minister.

The Legislature recognises the fearless women who marched on 9 August 1956 as a proof beyond reasonable doubt, that women are paragons of human perfection – a bastion against structural and social discrimination that ensured South Africa the democracy and freedom we are enjoying today.

The event will be attended by women entrepreneurs across the four districts of the province, the North West Women in Business, women in tertiary institutions, government departments including the Office of the Premier.
