The North West Provincial Legislature’s Portfolio Committee on Economic Development, Environment, Conservation and Tourism will be conducting public hearings on the Tourism bill 2012. The public hearings will be held at Tlhabane Community Hall, at Tigane Community Hall; at Letsopa Community Hall in Letsopa and at Madinonyane Community Hall in Madinonyane on Friday, 31 May 2013. All public hearings start at 10h00.
The Tourism Bill aims to provide for the development and promotion of sustainable tourism for the benefit of the Republic, its residents and its visitors; to provide for the continued existence of the South African Tourism Board; to provide for the establishment of the Tourism Grading Council; to regulate the tourist profession; to repeal certain laws; and to provide for matters connected therewith.
The bill will repeal the Tourism Act of 1993 and its subsequent amendments. The Tourism Act of 1993 did not support the implementation of the 1996 tourism white Paper, which is the Development and Promotion of Tourism in South Africa and its broader policy framework.
Members of the media are invited to attend the public hearing and they can contact Namhla on 079 527 0628 for further information.
