On Friday, 15 June 2017, the North West Provincial Legislature will be hosting the Youth Sectoral Parliament under the theme: “Youth Recognising the Foundation Laid by Tata Madiba and Mama Sisulu”, at Matlosana Recreation Centre at 10h00.
The discussions will focus on the following topics; Expropriation of Land without Compensation; Youth Renaissance; and Right to assemble, demonstrate, and picket. The discussions will assume the commissions approach.
On Expropriation of Land without Compensation, focus will be on the;
- The pros and cons
- The significance thereof
- Effects on the Economy
- Is this sufficient to resolve the land challenges
On Youth Renaissance focus will be on the;
- Youth Empowerment
- Emulating great leaders – choosing role models that embodies positive characteristics
- Influencing decisions – the principle of being the change one wants to see; the principle of what can I do for the country
On the Right to assemble, demonstrate and picket, focus will be on the;
- Right and responsibilities
- Crimes committed during the protests – destruction of properties, looting of shops
- how to get leaders to listen
- causes and prevention
The Legislature aims to promote an inclusive democracy that affords every individual an opportunity to contribute in shaping the province and deepening democracy.
Members of the Executive (EXCO) and the Provincial Legislature; different youth stakeholders which include Youth Entrepreneurship Services in the Office of the Premier; National Youth Development Agency (NYDA); Small Enterprise Development Agency (SEDA) and young people across the North West province will attend the event.
