The North West Provincial Legislature in partnership with the Department of Social Development and Office on the Rights of Older Persons will be hosting the Older Persons Conference and Sectoral Parliament on the 16 to 17 October 2014. The conference will be held at Mmabatho Convention Centre on the 16th October at 09h00 and on the 17th October 2014 the Older Persons Sectoral Parliament will be held at Legislature Chamber at 09h00.
The conference will be held under the theme: “Leaving No-One Behind-Building a Society for All: Together Moving South Africa Forward.” Discussions will focus on, amongst others, General link on Human Behaviour and Morality; Health Promotion and Indigenous Knowledge; Education on Financial Discipline and Economic Empowerment; Public Safety and Social Security and Creating an enabling environment conducive for all.
During the Sectoral Parliament and the conference, the elderly will elect a new provincial forum, raise issues that affect them and make recommendations to the relevant Portfolio Committee which will hold relevant departments and structures accountable. The elderly persons will also get a commitment from all departments and institutions on their issues.
Amongst the delegates expected to attend is the Social Development department, MEC Fenny Gaolaolwe, Members of the Provincial Legislature, 383 representatives from municipal forums; house of traditional leaders; Chapter 9 institutions; inter-faith organisations and different departments.
