North West Provincial Legislature to Host Health Sectoral Parliament in Shaleng near Taung
On Thursday, 30 November 2017, the Speaker of the North West Provincial Legislature, Hon. Sussana Dantjie will host the Health Sectoral Parliament under the theme “Celebrating 20 years of the Constitution: The Right To Health Is Fundamental To Individuals In Pursuit Of Adequate Standards Of Living” in Shaleng Village near Taung at 10h00.
The Sectoral Parliament is aimed at creating a platform for communities to raise challenges related to accessing health care and the availability of primary and tertiary health care facilities, and enhance the oversight role of Members of the Provincial Legislature on the health sector. It is also aimed to formulate a provincial working programme geared towards addressing shortfalls related to accessing primary health care services in rural areas.
The following thematic topics will be discussed;
- The impact of distance between the health service (primary and tertiary) and the right to healthcare;
- Accessibility and availability of emergency or ambulance services for both primary and tertiary healthcare with regards to turnaround time, and
- Referral system of clients/patients in all health services and central chronic medicine dispensing and distribution programme at community level.
The event will be attended by 200 stakeholders ranging from the Department of Health; Greater Taung Local and Dr. Ruth Mompati District Municipalities; Home-Based Care Centres; traditional authorities and community members in the district.
On Friday, 01 December 2017, the Legislature will host the People with Disability and Sports Sectoral Parliament at All Seasons Hotel in Christiana at 10h00.
