Public Safety Committee calls IPID to account on cases involving police officials and Local Government Committee to meet administrators of municipalities under Section 139 (b)
On Wednesday, 19 February 2014, the North West Provincial Legislature’s Portfolio Committee on Human Settlement, Public Safety and Liaison will hold a meeting with the management of the Provincial Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) to account on cases involving police officials in the province. The meeting will be held at Matlosana Municipal Chamber at 8h00.
The IPID management had been called to present a brief report at the case of Mr. Morgan Mohlala, a policing forum chairperson who was allegedly dragged for about 100 meters in a gravel road by a police officer in a police vehicle at Setlopo village; Warrant Officer De Klerk who allegedly shot and killed Mr. Thomas Morake at Potchefstroom who is alleged to have been involved in a case of house breaking and theft at Ikageng Township; the case of the late Mr Tshepiso Nebe of Lomanyaneng village who was allegedly killed by police during a protest in the area and the case of the late Mr Papiki Klienboy Mathews who died after being allegedly dragged by a police officer in a moving police vehicle in Klerksdorp.
At 10h00 on the same venue, the Portfolio Committee on Local Government and Traditional Affairs will hold a meeting with the Administrators of Matlosana Local Municipality; Ditsobotla Local Municipality and Maquassi Hills Local Municipality to assess the state of affairs in these municipalities. The Administrators are requested to present a progress report after the implementation of Section 139(b).
The meeting will also be attended by Mayors and Members of the Municipal Councils, Municipal Managers including senior management of municipalities and the representatives from Department of Local Government and Traditional Affairs.
