North West Legislature holds meeting with MEC, Wendy Matsemela on challenges at Pica Pau Secondary, 28 Jan

On Wednesday, 28 January 2014, the North West Provincial Legislature’s Portfolio Committee on Education will hold a meeting with the Education MEC, Wendy Matsemela, the senior management of the department, representatives of the Congress of the South African Trade Unions, the community and School Governing Body of Pica Pau Secondary School in Pomfret.

The meeting will discuss, amongst others, why the school has been underperforming for quite a number of years, acquiring less than 50% learner pass rate for matric in 2014. The school also does not have basic services, like water and sanitation due to the relocation of the community.

This forms part of the oversight visits that the committee is busy with in the Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District to assess the schools’ readiness for 2015 and challenges these schools are facing.
