North West Province set to host the 5th National Agricultural Colleges Choral Music Competition
It’s all systems go for the 2018 National Agricultural Colleges Choral Competition (NACCC), which is expected to draw a crowd of thousands from across the country to the North West Province.
NACCC is an annual choral music event hosted by the Association of Agricultural Colleges Principals (APAC). The competition is hosted by each college on a rotational basis. This year’s competition will take place from the 06-07 April 2018 with Potchefstroom College of Agriculture being the host.
Formerly known as the Constitution of Colleges Choral Music Association (COCMA), this annual music festival started back in 2013 with Lowveld College of Agriculture currently known as University of Mpumalanga hosting the event.
This year marks five years of existence for NACCC which has been raising the bar year after year. The second competition was staged in the North West Province in 2014 where Taung Agricultural College was the host with only three agricultural colleges namely Taung, Grootfontein and Glen participating.
The competition is meant to recognize the immense talent and to showcase the best musical talent which subsists in national agricultural institutions of higher learning.
Bokone Bophirima Province has always viewed the arts to have a useful and even a crucial role to play in nation building and promoting unity in diversity.
With thousands of choral music fans expected to grace the occasion, the event will boost the local economy and open up business opportunities for local entrepreneurs.
Expected colleges of Agriculture to participate in this year’s competition are : Tsolo College, Fort Cox College & Grootfontein College from Eastern Cape, Taung College of Agriculture, Potchefstroom College of Agriculture from North West, Tompi Seleka College, Madzivhandila College from Limpopo, Owen Sithole College, Cedara College from Kwazulu-Natal and Glen Agricultural College from the Free State.
Members of the media are invited to cover the event where North West MEC for Rural, Environment and Agricultural Development, Ms Manketsi Tlhape is expected to give a keynote address.
