North West Department of Local Government and Traditional Affairs promotes proper records management by donating equipment to municipalities

As a built-up towards ensuring that municipalities in the North West province receive Clean Audits by 2014, the North West Department of Local Government and Traditional Affairs had today donated records management equipment for at least 11 municipalities namely Kagisano-Molopo, Naledi, Lekwa-Teemane, Ventersdorp, Maquassi hills, Tswaing, Mahikeng, Moretele, Mamusa, Ngaka Modiri Molema and Madibeng municipalities.

The equipments include computers, scanner, printers and stationery which they will use for proper records managements as recommended by the Auditor-General in the 2010/11 report.

In handing over these equipments and addressing an assembly of Mayors, Municipal officials and Managers, Chairpersons of MPACs from various municipalities at the Mmabatho Civic Centre, MEC China Dodovu said that there is a dire need to comprehend the volume and the magnitude of the problems faced by municipalities and map out a way of working together to mend them. “This project is therefore one of the key pillars which is encapsulated into our broader remedial plan of action as it one of the major audit queries raised by the auditor general”.

He said the primary objective of the Records Management Project is to develop and entrench a culture of proper records management in municipalities, promote good governance to enhance service delivery through proper records and information management, establish process, mechanisms and procedures for proper records management that will contribute towards the Clean Audits 2014 objective.
