North West Community outreach programme

The Minister of Police, Mr Nkosinathi Nhleko, the Deputy Minister of Police, Ms Maggy Sotyu and the National Commissioner, General Riah Phiyega will be visiting the province for SAPS Community Outreach Programme activity.

The aim of the outreach is to strengthen police stakeholder-relations in North West province with among others, with the objectives of strengthening police-community relationship, promotion of integrated approach to crime prevention through multi-stakeholder collaboration; empowering communities in crime prevention and policing in their local areas and to educate children about crime and violence at schools.

Partnership policing means police and communities must work together in the fight against crime. Fighting crime cannot be the sole responsibility of the police; we need communities to report crime and perpetrators of crime to the police. The North West platinum belt is one such area that needs to embrace the philosophy of partnership policing to have safe mining communities.

The outreach programme will be preceded by a meeting of the Minister with the SAPS Provincial Management as part of his hundred days plan on Friday, 25 July 2014, while the outreach will be held as follows:

Date: Saturday, 26 July 2014
