North West to celebrate Water Week with delivery of Ramatlabama upgraded and refurbished water reticulation and bulk water supply project
The delivery of the upgraded and refurbished water reticulation and bulk water supply project is to be celebrated as part of National Water Week (NWW) aimed at raising the importance, awareness and understanding of water issues and challenges. The North West provincial event hosted in partnership with Ngaka Modiri Molema District and Mahikeng Local Municipality is to be held at Ramatlabana village outside Mahikeng tomorrow, Thursday, 20 March 2014.
“This year’s NWW is celebrated as from 17-23 March 2014 under the theme “Water is Life - 20 Years of Water Delivery for Social and Economic Development”. Two decades ago, around 14 million people did not have access to safe drinking water and some 21 million people did not have access to a basic level of sanitation. The R29.1 million project funded jointly by the Department of Water Affairs and the Office of the Premier’s Legacy Project benefited Tsetse, Six hundred, Ikopeleng, Dimorogwane and Miga villages.
The project included refurbishment of existing infrastructure, Upgrading of 22.5 km pipelines and a 281 kilolitre storage tanks, Water source development or hydrogeological investigation resulting into two new boreholes and 300 new yard connections and refurbishment of existing connections.
Members of the media are invited to cover to be held at the Ramatlabama Sports Ground at 10h00.
