Correctional Services Minister Sibusiso Ndebele will deliver the keynote address at the National Skills Development Graduation Ceremony for offenders at the Leeuwkop Correctional Centre in Gauteng.
The 200 inmates, who completed the accredited Artisan Development Skills Programme, are part of 5 864 offenders participating in accredited skills programmes across the country. In line with the rehabilitation of offenders as prescribed by the White Paper on Corrections in South Africa, these programmes are based on an agreement between the Department of Correctional Services and the Department of Higher Education and Training.
The Correctional Services Act states: “The department must provide or give access to a full range of programmes and activities as is practicable to meet the education and training needs of sentenced offenders”.
