National Planning Commission hosts National Dialogue on Integrated Disaster Management, 9 Oct

The National Planning Commission will host a National Dialogue on Integrated Disaster Management on Friday, 9 October 2026, under the theme:

Building a Resilient Nation Through Integrated Disaster Risk Management and Collaborative Governance

The dialogue will bring together representatives from national, provincial and local government, disaster management institutions, traditional leadership, academia, civil society, communities and the private sector.

Participants will examine how disaster risk can be more effectively integrated into development planning, spatial planning, infrastructure investment and governance. The programme will also consider community preparedness, climate-related risks, early warning systems, institutional coordination and the financing of disaster prevention, response and recovery.

Minister in the Presidency for Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation and Chairperson of the NPC, Ms Maropene Ramokgopa, will deliver the keynote address. The Deputy Chairperson of the NPC, Prof Tinyiko Maluleke, will deliver the opening remarks.

The dialogue takes place against the backdrop of increasingly complex and interconnected risks, including severe weather events, environmental degradation, infrastructure pressures, rapid urbanisation and socio-economic inequality. It seeks to move the national conversation beyond emergency response towards prevention, preparedness and risk-informed development.

Members of the media are invited to attend and cover the dialogue.
