Mpumalanga hosts provincial World Aids Day commemoration in Matsulu,30 Nov to 01 Dec

Mpumalanga will host the Provincial World Aids Day commemoration in Matsulu. The commemoration will be preceded by the Provincial Aids Council Lekgotla, as part of creating an opportunity to pay attention and solidarity for the global fight against HIV and AIDS. The Province will be joining the global community to mobilize support for the infected and affected victims of HIV and AIDS.

The World Aids Day is commemorated each year on the 1st of December to provide an opportunity for the citizens to unite against HIV, show support for those who are living with HIV and remember those who succumbed to the disease. The commemoration also serves as a reminder to the communities to treat those who are living with or affected by HIV, like all human beings than to stigmatise and discriminate against them.

In the country, the campaign is coordinated by the South African National AIDS Council (SANAC), whereas in the Province, it is led by the Mpumalanga Provincial Aids Council (MPAC) which is co-chaired by the Premier and the civil society. The council is a multi- sectoral body comprising of government, civil society and private sectors.
