Mpumalanga Education hands over school libraries to primary schools, 22 to 23 Sept

The Mpumalanga Department of Education and the Department of Culture Sport and Recreation in collaboration with the Mpumalanga Writers Association and EduSciMat will handover school libraries and a Math Centre at Sitintile Secondary school and Tentelene Primary school on Monday 21 September 2015 at 12h00.

The promotion of school libraries is one of the departmental non-negotiable, the Minister of basic Education; Mrs. Angie Motshekga initiated a Campaign to revitalize 1000 school libraries a year throughout the country.

This event will add impetus in mobilizing communities for the promotion of reading and to support the department in this venture. It is in keeping to the drop All and Read Campaign and the Implementation of Early Grade Reading and the promotion of the MEC book Club.

The MEC for Education, Mrs. Reginah Mhaule, MEC for the department of Culture Sport and Recreation, Mrs. Nora Mahlangu- Mabena and the executive mayor of Mbombela Local Municipality will grace the occasion.

The Department in collaboration with Old Mutual will donate 65 school shoes to deserving learners at Makhahlela P School at Gutshwa Kabokweni in Mbombela Local Municipality at on Tuesday 22 September 2015 at 13h00.

Old Mutual has handed 700 pair of shoes to learners in our province this year in the following schools:

The Department of education and the Department of Social Services in collaboration with Transnet Foundation will launch the Teenage Health Programme.

The Transnet Foundation is set to roll-out its Teenage Health Programme in 5 areas across the province. The programme, which targets young girls from disadvantaged communities, aims to assist girls embrace their femininity. This is done through awareness, education and mentoring about feminine health and hygiene.

The following Mpumalanga schools are involved in the programme:

  • Entabamhlophe Combined School
  • Cyril Clarke Secondary School
  • Imemeza High School
  • Ebudlweini Primary School.

This Programme will be launched at Oosterlijn Primary School, Watervalboven at Emakhazeni Local Municipality on Wednesday, 23 September 2015 at 12h00.
