Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga will on Thursday, 22 August 2013 launch the Beyers Naude Schools Development Programme (BNSDP) infrastructure programme at various schools in Maluti –a- Phofung local municipality.
About R 13 million have been injected into the programme to build science laboratories, computer centres and libraries for high schools and a mathematics laboratory for primary schools.
The Free State Department of Education and Kagiso Trust will hand over infrastructure facilities in nine high schools and one primary school as part of rewarding them for obtaining more than 80% grade 12 pass rate and above 60% on the Annual National Assessment (ANA).
The BNSDP is the partnership between the Free State Department of Education and Kagiso Trust to provide appropriate and state- of- the- art infrastructure for effective learning and teaching.
“It is a partnership that is tacking the challenges in education in an integrated manner and sustaining improvements in the schools system with a major focus on learner performance, and it bears all the hallmarks that have made Kagiso Trust iconic leader in community empowerment” says Free State Education MEC, Tate Makgoe.
The BNSDP programme was first launched in 2007 with nine schools and now expanded to 167 schools in Maluti- a – Phofung local municipality.
“The programme has assisted these schools in turning around their management strategy, curriculum delivery, and school governing body involvement as well as learner accountability” says Kgotso Schoeman, CEO of Kagiso Trust.
The theme for the programme is “Fighting poverty and restoring dignity through education”
The schools which will benefit from the programme in 2013:
1. Nkarabeng Secondary School - library, science laboratories, computer centre
2. Khetha Tsebo Secondary School - library, science laboratories
3. Thokoana Makata Secondary School - library, science laboratories, computer centre
4. Mohato Secondary School - library, science laboratories, computer centre
5. Makgabane Secondary School - library, science laboratories, computer centre
6. Dinare Secondary School - library, science laboratories, computer centre
7. Mosioua Lekota Secondary School- library, science laboratories, computer centre
8. Makeneng Primary School - mathematics laboratory
9. Thalabodiba Secondary School - library, science laboratories, computer centre
