Monitoring visit to the Johannesburg Downtown Studios by The Presidency

The Deputy Minister in the Presidency for Performance Monitoring and Evaluation  Mr Obed Bapela, supported by the technical staff from the Department of Performance Monitoring and Evaluation (DPME), senior officials from the Department of Arts and Culture and representatives from the entertainment fraternity, will be conducting an announced monitoring visit to the Downtown Studios in Johannesburg.

The Downtown Studios were secured by the Department of Arts and Culture in order to create and establish a suitable environment for recording by music artists. Following the Presidential feedback meeting with the  cultural industry held on 12 December 2012, it was established that the Studios were not in a satisfactory condition.

The purpose of the visit is to assess and monitor the functioning and working conditions of the Studios, and also to find best solutions to improve the conditions of the Studios.

The Presidency take into account that the cultural industries are not only important contributors to nation building and social cohesion, but offer much more value, as one of the key economic drivers and thus contribute to economic growth of the country.
