The Ministry for Public Service and Administration to host an Open Government Partnership Consultation Roundtable

The Deputy Minister for Public Service and Administration, Ayanda Dlodlo will host a series of provincial Open Government Partnership Consultation Roundtables, with the first one to be hosted on 20 March 2013 in the province of KwaZulu-Natal.

In September 2011, President Jacob Zuma endorsed the South African government`s participation in the Open Government Partnership (OGP), which is a multilateral initiative that aims to secure concrete commitments from governments to promote transparency, empower citizens, fight corruption, and harness new technologies to strengthen governance.

OGP aims to secure concrete commitments from governments to promote transparency, empower citizens, fight corruption, and harness new technologies to strengthen governance.

To achieve these objectives, OGP brings together governments and civil society organisations as true partners.

OGP is overseen by a Steering Committee composed of governments and civil society organizations in equal numbers, a unique model that embodies the goal of civic participation. Its chairs are also drawn from both sectors.

In compliance with the OGP requirements, South Africa has developed a country action plan with identified seven commitments as concrete steps that government will embark on towards addressing the grand challenge of Service Delivery.

The country action plan, which was developed in consultation with civil society organisations from across the country and citizen inputs from the National Development Plan consultation processes, identified service delivery as our country`s grand challenge. Our government is committed to walking alongside its citizens to develop.

This roundtable discussion is part of a series that the Deputy Minister will be hosting in the nine provinces and will serve as consultation with the relevant stakeholders toward the finalisation of Government Self-Assessment Report.
