Ministers for Higher Education and Training and Health conduct a follow-up visit to MEDUNSA

Significant progress has been made towards the demerger and establishment of a new comprehensive Health and Allied Sciences University into which the MEDUNSA Campus of the University of Limpopo will be incorporated.

In May 2013, the Minister of Higher Education and Training, Dr. BE Nzimande, MP, announced the intention to establish a new health sciences university, and to incorporate the MEDUNSA subdivision of the University of Limpopo into this new institution.

Subsequently, a Joint Task Team was constituted to advise Minister Blade Nzimande and the Minister of Health, Dr. Aaron Motsoaledi on the demerger and incorporation process.

The Joint Task Team has been seized with investigations, engaging with all stakeholders, researching national health priorities and international trends, conducting feasibility studies of what the new university will need in terms of infrastructure, facilities, space and clinical training platforms, and considering the most appropriate governance, management processes and transitional arrangements.

The Task Team has completed its report and has presented it Ministers Nzimande and Motsoaledi. The two Ministers thus will be reporting back to the University Community on the progress recorded in the JTT Report presented to them.

It is against this background that Minister Nzimande, together Minister Motsoaledi, will, on Wednesday, 9 April 2014, conduct a follow-up visit the University of Limpopo (MEDUNSA Campus) in Ga-Rankuwa and address the University Community in an engagement scheduled as follows:

Date: Wednesday, 9 April 2014
Time: 12h00
Venue: University of Limpopo, MEDUNSA Campus, Ga-Rankuwa (PTA)
