Ministerial Music Task Team engages on challenges facing the music sector

Members of the media are invited to the first meeting of the Ministerial Music Task Team that is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, 30 July 2013 at Protea Hotel in Midrand.

Minister of Arts and Culture, Paul Mashatile has appointed the task team to look at challenges facing the sector such as royalty collection, piracy, as well as to investigate the feasibility of having social security (funeral scheme, retirement annuity and others) for artists.

Part of the brief of the Task Team is to propose concrete and workable solutions to address challenges facing the sector and to take forward the implementation of the outcomes thereof. The preliminary report is expected to be submitted by end September 2013.

The task team is chaired by renowned artist, Yvonne Chaka Chaka and comprises of industry role players, media experts and musicians namely Sibongile Khumalo, Arthur Mafokate, Zintle Jiyane, Mduduzile Masilela, Griselda Kananda, Putco Mafani, Thembinkosi Nciza as members.

This meeting follows the establishment of a Task Team on Local Content which took place earlier this month as Minister Mashatile intensifies efforts to increase and enhance the economic contribution of the arts through the Mzansi Golden Economy Strategy.
