Minister Zweli Mkhize addresses Local Government Week, 8 May

The Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Dr Zweli Mkhize will be joining members of the National Council of Provinces and National Assembly during the Local Government Week scheduled to take place from 08 – 10 May 2018, in Parliament, Cape Town.  The members of both houses will be engaged in discussions and debates around the work of local government.  The Theme is “land use towards integrated spatial planning”.
 
The aims of the Local Government Week are:
 
(a)  to provide a platform for the debate on matters affecting local government in the national sphere of government;
(b)  to allow a focussed attention on the challenges confronting the local sphere of government;
(c)  propose solutions thereto including proposing amendment to laws that negatively impact on service delivery as well as those that result in over-regulation; and
(d)  to engender the principles of co-operative governance and intergovernmental relations in dealing with matters affecting the local sphere of government.
