Minister Zokwana to present department's plans towards realising 1 million jobs in agriculture

Minister Senzeni Zokwana will present the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries' annual strategic plans on Wednesday, 16 July 2014.

The presentation will focus on the state of agriculture, forestry and fisheries in South Africa, locating these within the global context. The speech will provide a plan on how the department, under the leadership of Minister Zokwana, will create one million jobs in agriculture by 2030 as articulated by the National Development Plan.

The speech will also outline a plan in response to the most pressing issues in the fisheries sector, especially in relation to the issue of transformation in the sector.

Lastly, the Minister's speech will respond to calls for the inclusion of youth in agriculture, including ways in which the department will invest in programmes that will be informed by strengthening relationships with communities through social mobilisation.

The budget vote address will be held in Parliament at the Old Assembly at 16h35 on Wednesday, 16 July 2014 in Cape Town.
