Following various reports of water interruptions in sparse areas of Gauteng, the Minister of Water and Sanitation Department, Ms Nomvula Mokonyane will be meeting with the entire Board, the Chief Executive and senior officials of the Rand Water Board. Also present at the meeting will be the Acting Director-General of the Water and Sanitation Department accompanied by senior executives from the department.
Scheduled to take place this evening at 18h00, the meeting is intended to brief the Minister comprehensively on progress made to resolve the ongoing problem and to chart the way forward.
The Rand Water Board has already reported that the main cause of the interruptions could be pinned down to the ageing infrastructure, vandalism as well as power supply shortage to pump water upstream into reservoirs to supply the affected communities.
Engineering teams from the affected areas’ municipalities have been working around the clock, together with Rand Water to resolve the problem.
A comprehensive report on the current situation is expected this evening after the meeting and will be shared with the media in due course.
