Minister of Employment and Labour Thulas Nxesi will be visiting Mr Majola of Port Elizabeth who was seriously injured at work and has never been compensated
The Minister of Employment & Labour Thulas Nxesi is to visit Mr Majola in Port Elizabeth who was seriously burnt on his body at work in 2018. At the time, Mr. Majola was employed by Kelly Girl and was placed at Good Year in the Banbury Area as a mill man.
The Minister’s visit is to show sympathy and support to Mr. Majola and his family. The Minister is also ensuring that Mr Majola is compensated and already he has steps to initiate Mr Majola’s claims. The Minister will also do the same to the other injured and uncompensated employees who where shown on the on the eNCA Checkpoint news insert.
Minister Nxesi has taken a keen interest on this case since it was reported by eNCA. Checkpoint exposed workers who were injured at work and who were also failed by their employers who did not assist them to lodge claims in terms of Section 39 of the Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act with the Compensation Fund.
The Minister has since directed his Department to initiate an investigation on the case of Mr Majola and others shown on the program. If the company owners are found guilty, the Department is to issue a Section 32 enquiry, that will allow the Department to investigate the cause of the accidents. The Minister is also calling upon all workers who got injured at work and who experienced similar treatment by their employers to report such cases at their nearest Labour Centres.
While in Port Elizabeth, the Minister will also visit Continental Tyres and meet with the workers.
