Minister Nxesi meets finance and Property businesses on the DPW lease renewal programme

The Department of Public Works will be having a feedback meeting with the business sector on the empowerment programmes of the department and the lease renewal programme.

In May, Public Works Minister TW Nxesi, MP, met with the businesses in the property sector and made a number of undertakings, including the signing of longer leases and ensuring the participation of 100% Black owned property companies in government leases.

Minister Nxesi will meet with the business sector to provide a progress report on the implementation of the Property Empowerment Policy, as well as the progress made with the renewal and renegotiation of leases through the expedited process, agreed with National Treasury. The Minister will give feedback on how far the lease renewal process is and measures taken by the department to ensure that this process is speedily completed.

During the meeting in May, the Minister assured the landlords that government was ready to do business with the property sector and to bring certainty to the market based on market-related pricing, improved value and service to government, and broad-based black economic empowerment.

Minister Nxesi will also talk about opportunities to be created for small emerging black property practitioners, particularly in small towns and rural areas.
