Minister Thulas Nxesi and Deputy Minister Boitumelo Moloi lead Employment Equity Amendment roadshow, 31 Aug

The Employment and Labour Ministry, Thulas Nxesi and Boitumelo Moloi will address the Chatsworth community and communities from adjacent areas during a roadshow session on Thursday, 31 August 2023, focusing on the recently updated Employment Equity Act (EEA), workplace equity, affirmative action, and related topics.

The Employment Equity Amendments were signed into law by President Ramaphosa in April 2023. The Ministerial programme forms part of the Department’s Employment Equity (EE) national roadshows held under the theme: “Real transformation makes business sense”.

The objective of the EE amendments is: to reduce the regulatory burden for small employers; to empower the Minister to regulate the sector-specific numerical EE targets; to promulgate Section 53; and to strengthen compliance, including the issuing of EE compliance certificates.

Departmental services, such as Public Employment Services, Compensation Fund (compensation for occupational injuries and diseases), and Unemployment Insurance Fund, would be provided on-site as part of this initiative.

The Ministerial visit on Thursday will be preceded by an EE workshop to be held on (30 August 2023) Wednesday at Southern Sun Elangeni & Maharani 63 Snell Parade, North Beach, Durban starting at 10:00 a.m.

The Ministerial roadshow is scheduled to take place as follows:

Venue: Durban in Chatsworth at uMhlathuzana Community Centre.
Date: 31 August 2023
Time: 8:00 -16:00 (EE presentation starts at 10:00 a.m.)
