The Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA), Ms Thembisile Nkadimeng will participate in the National Assembly mini-plenary debate to be convened under the theme “Examining the Fiscal Framework of the local government sphere against its Constitutional mandate, with proposals on debt owed by municipalities and vice versa, and other revenue-enhancing mechanisms for a financially sustainable local government”.
The Minister’s contribution will focus on the systematic challenges affecting local municipalities in rural and urban areas and interventions by the executive. In addition, the Minister will also amongst others, unpack the impact of legislation and regulations on the efficiency of local government; Government strategies and plans to enhance viability of municipalities as well as measures to enhance agreements to resolve the debt owed by municipalities and debt owed to municipalities.
