Minister Simelane to handover housing units in Ethekwini ahead of a presidential visit to the province
The Minister of Human Settlements, Thembi Simelane, together with the KZN MEC for Transport and Human Settlements, Siboniso Duma, and eThekwini Mayor, Cllr Cyril Xaba, will tomorrow handover housing units to qualifying beneficiaries at Maphephetheni, in eThekwini Metropolitan Municipality.
The Emaphephetheni Phase 3 Rural Housing Project is expected to provide decent shelter to 2286 families by 2028. For the current financial year, 2026/2027 close to R7 million has been allocated to the project.
The Department of Human Settlements is fully committed to restoring dignity of rural communities, including eradicating mud houses with the current financial target of close to 7000 mud houses across the country.
The handover will precede a Presidential visit by His Excellency, President Cyril Ramaphosa to the province to celebrate milestones at Cornubia Integrated Human Settlements and resettlement of 2022 flood survivors.
