The Minister of Telecommunications and Postal Services Dr Siyabonga Cwele and Deputy Minister Ms Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams will visit the Gugulethu Library tomorrow to monitor the use of the Wi Fi connectivity which was sponsored by the department in 2016 as part of the ways of lowering the cost of data in underserved areas in six Metropolitan Municipalities.
In the Western Cape, the department partnered with the City of Cape to bring internet access to underserved areas with a high number of potential users as part of its ongoing efforts to make access to the internet affordable, especially for the poor. The department and the City identified 19 libraries which could be connected through the R4.6 million donation by the department.
The Gugulethu Library is used mostly by learners from the surrounding schools to do research and by the unemployed youth to search for opportunities to empower themselves.
