Minister Sindisiwe Chikunga visits N2 Wild Coast Road Project, 28 Apr

Minister of Transport to visit N2 Wild Coast Road Project

The South African National Roads Agency SOC Limited (SANRAL) will be hosting the Minister of Transport, Ms Lydia Sindisiwe Chikunga, and the Deputy Minister, Mr Lisa Mangcu, who will be conducting an oversight at the N2 Wild Coast Road Project on Friday, 28 April 2023.

The Minister and Deputy Minister will conduct site visits to inspect the progress on the project, including the Msikaba and Mtentu mega-bridges, which form the backbone of this project. This project will also bring about the building of new river bridges, several new interchange bridges and the upgrading or construction of numerous linking access roads that form part of the project providing connectivity, mobility and access to social and economic opportunities for local communities.

Once completed, the route will be approximately 69km and 85km shorter than the current N2 and R61 routes respectively. Due to its shorter and flatter alignment this will result in the compression of travel time for motorists by an hour and a half to three hours for light and heavy freight vehicles.

The new mobility corridor between the Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal will benefit existing and new businesses, communities as well as farmers along the route. It also seeks to develop the freight and logistics industry as well as tourism within the region.

There will be interview and photography opportunities to witness progress.
