Minister Sindisiwe Chikunga opens R37 national road in Burgersfort, Limpopo, 3 Nov - Postponed

Members of the media are hereby informed that the official opening of the R37 road in Burgersfort, Limpopo that was scheduled to be officiated by the Minister of Transport, Ms Sindisiwe Chikunga on Friday, 3 November 2023 has been postponed. 

The Department regrets and apologises for any inconvenience caused by this postponement. 

A new date for the event will be announced and communicated in due course. 

The Minister of Transport, Ms Sindisiwe Chikunga, will officially open the R37 national road in Burgersfort, Limpopo Province to round off the October Transport Month campaign of the Department for 2023.

The Department, through SANRAL, has invested approximately R780-million for the upgrading of the project between Burgersfort and Polokwane to address increasing traffic volumes and road safety concerns while also making connectivity possible. The 25-kilometre project is part of the 18 SANRAL-led rehabilitation projects in the Sekhukhune District Municipality. 

The aim of the OTM closing initiative along the R37 is to showcase infrastructure built that connects rural areas and Central Business Districts (CBDs) thus enabling socio-economic activity for communities.

In addition to the opening of R37, Minister Chikunga will also distribute Shova Kalula bicycles to the identified learners around the Sekhukhune District Municipality.

Venue: Ga-Maroga Tribal Precinct, Fetakgomo – Tubatse Local Municipality, Burgersfort, Limpopo
