The Minister of Human Settlements, Thembi Simelane, will on Friday, 30 October 2026, lead Team Human Settlements to the flood-affected areas in OR Tambo District Municipality, Eastern Cape.
The purpose of the visit is to assess the extent of damage caused to residential properties, with the aim of identifying relevant interventions in accordance with the Emergency Housing Programme.
Through the Emergency Housing Programme, the Department of Human Settlements can intervene by providing Temporary Emergency Accommodation (TEA), Temporary Residential Units (TRUs) and building materials, among other forms of assistance.
