Minister Mchunu to assess the current state of water supply in Phoenix and Verulam

In concerted and continuous efforts to address water challenges in eThekwini and surrounds, the Minister of Water and Sanitation, Mr Senzo Mchunu will conduct another visit to Phoenix and Verulam to assess measures put in place to improve water supply in the adversely affected areas on Friday, 16 February 2024. 

On 04 February 2024, Minister Mchunu met with the communities of Phoenix, Verulam and Tongaat and made an undertaking to resolve their acute water challenges in their respective areas. This was followed up by another community meeting in Phoenix on 11 February 2024 to give community members an update on the ongoing intervention measures being implemented to ensure reliable water supply.

The visit by Minister Mchunu on Friday, comes on the heels of a meeting convened by Director-General, Dr Sean Phillips with a technical team from the City of eThekwini and uMngeni-uThukela Water Board to evaluate progress made in solving technical challenges that resulted in water challenges.

Minister Mchunu will visit the following areas:

  • Mount View Reservoir in Verulam at 09:00
  • Siphesihle Primary School at 09:45
  • Phoenix 1 Reservoir at 10:45
  • Mahatma Ghandi Memorial Hospital at 11:25
  • Clayheights Primary School at 12:25
