Minister of Water and Sanitation Senzo Mchunu will conduct an oversight visit to the Clanwilliam Dam infrastructure project in the Western Cape on 02 November 2023.
During his visit, Minister Mchunu will engage the project managers, local farmers and members of community of the West Coast and receive progress report on the project which will have a significant and positive impact for the West Coast and Province.
The project entails the raising of the Clanwilliam Dam wall by 13 meters and is one of the biggest government infrastructure investments in the Western Cape. The direct economic benefit of the project is the additional yield water for resourcing of poor farmers of the West Coast; creation of the much-needed jobs for the locals and generally, unlock the economy of the West Coast corridor.
Last week, the DWS Construction Unit carried out trial blasting at the dam construction site, signalling the beginning of a new era for the project as excavation activities are expected to unleash high-scale activity at the construction in the weeks to come.
