Minister Senzeni Zokwana announces First World Forestry Congress in Africa, 10 Apr

The Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Mr Senzeni Zokwana will announce that South Africa will be hosting the XIV World Forestry Congress 2015 in partnership with the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) and other government departments on Friday, 10 April 2015, in Pretoria.

The WFC 2015 will take place for the first time on African soil after South Africa was awarded the rights to host this prestigious and global event. The Congress will be held on 7-11 September at the Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre (ICC) in Durban, under the theme “Forest and People: - Investing in a Sustainable Future.” The World Forestry Congress (WFC) is the largest and most significant gathering of the world's forestry sector and is held every six years since 1926.

WFC is a forum for sharing of knowledge and experience regarding the conservation, management and use of the world's forests. The Congress will cover issues such as international dialogue, socio-economic and institutional aspects and forest policies. Furthermore, it will provide a platform for deliberating critical issues facing the forestry sector such as the role of food security in forestry, one of the department’s priority and focus areas.
