The Minister of Trade and industry, Dr Rob Davies, has issued an invitation for parties interested in the operation of the third national lottery licence to submit bids by 30 November 2013.
The Minister will address the media on this issue at a media briefing to be held as follows:

The invitation is contained in the Government Gazette Notice No. 36556, Volume 576, issued on 11 June 2013. There will be a compulsory briefing session on 27 and 28 June 2013 at 10h00 at a venue to be advised by the National Lotteries Board in due course.
Interested parties are called upon to apply for copies of the Request For Proposal in writing to Prof. Alfred Nevhutanda, Chairperson, National Lotteries Board, at the following address:

The Lotteries Act of 1997 governs the operation of lottery within the country and provides the powers for the Minister to appoint a national operator to operate for a defined period. Lottery commenced operation for the first time in South Africa in 1999. The first lottery operator was Uthingo followed by Gidani whose term comes to an end in 2014. The Third National Lottery licence will commence upon the expiry of the term currently operated by Gidani.
