The Minister of Police, Nathi Mthethwa will officially open and handover the Lamberts Bay Police Station to the community of Lamberts Bay, Western Cape tomorrow. The official ceremony will also include a community participation meeting aimed at strengthening partnership between the police and community.
In his keynote address, the Minister is expected to focus on finding collective solutions to the challenge of drug abuse by young people, particularly in the Western Cape. Often times blame is apportioned to the police to deal with this challenge and the Minister will utilize the occasion to call for a more multi-faceted approach, involving police and different community structures.
He will further outline the importance of building new police stations, particularly in areas which had been neglected in the past. This will ensure that communities do not travel long distances to report crime but further ensuring that police officers are provided with the requisite resources to succeed in fighting crime.
The Minister will be joined by the Deputy Minister of Police, Ms Makhotso Sotyu, senior provincial and local South African Police Service police management, representatives from the Community Policing Forum Board, local business and civic organizations leaders as well as youth structures.
