Minister of Police, Nathi Mthethwa to meet Afrikaner Weerstandbeveging (AWB) leaders

The Minister of Police, Nathi Mthethwa will today meet leaders of the Afrikaner Weerstandbeveging (AWB) party to discuss issues of crime, particularly in rural areas. The meeting was proposed by the AWB leadership and the Minister accepted based on the ministry’s open engagement approach with all sectors in dealing with issues of crime.

Amongst the agenda issues to be discussed, they include the rural safety strategy and South African Police Service (SAPS) implementation thereof, various crime trends including house and business robberies. They would also like to get a sense on policing approach of public protests which have been witnessed in the past few months as well as how SAPS is dealing with various monitoring measures such as firearm control.

The Minister welcomes such open engagements with different stakeholders because they help in policy formulation and implementation. Almost on a weekly basis, the Minister meets with community formations, businesses organisations and civil society to strengthen partnerships with police, in the fight against crime.
