Arts and Culture Minister, Paul Mashatile will give a keynote address at the Association of Independent Record Companies (AIRCO) road show, to be held on 29 November 2012 at the SABC Radio Park, in Johannesburg.
The road show aims to revive the music industry in all provinces of South Africa, by publicising AIRCO and the Department of Arts and Culture Minister (DAC) efforts in transformation, improving access and widening participation in the music industry.
DAC, AIRCO and SABC entered into an agreement to work together with the objective of assisting musician’s access their royalties on time and in a fair manner in cases where these royalties are due.
"The agreement will provide record companies and musicians with the necessary information to claim their royalties and improve distribution of their products. It also means that the SABC will have access to more local music videos," said Minister Mashatile.
The three parties have since agreed to embark on road shows, to inform stakeholders in all provinces about the agreement and how it will work. It is hoped that the road shows will assist efforts to encourage musicians to take advantages of the economic and developmental opportunities available in this sector.
