The Minister of Science and Technology, Naledi Pandor, will attend the Southern African Development Community (SADC) meeting of ministers responsible for science, technology and innovation (STI) in Maputo, Mozambique on Friday, 20 June 2014.
The SADC Ministerial Committee on Science and Technology (SAMCOST) is a regional platform that allows the SADC STI ministers to meet once a year and deliberate on key policy issues related to science, technology and innovation.
Key issues to be discussed this year include the following:
- The SADC Climate Change Implementation Plan.
- The SADC STI Strategic Framework.
- A charter for the SADC Women in Science, Engineering and Technology programme.
- The SADC Indigenous Knowledge Systems Plan.
- A report on the review of the Regional Indicative Development Strategic Plan.
- A report on the SADC senior officials meeting hosted by South Africa in April 2014.
The Department of Science and Technology (DST) will also use the meeting to profile a number of partnership opportunities with strategic partners such as the European Union and various multilateral organisations in order to leverage resources to support regional programmes.
