Minister Pandor to address graduation ceremony for Home Affairs officials at Wits Business School

Home Affairs Minister Naledi Pandor will on Friday, 31 May 2013 deliver a keynote address during the graduation ceremony for 20 Home Affairs senior managers who qualified for the Management Development Programme offered by the Wits University’s Business School. The graduation ceremony will be held at the Donald Gordon Auditorium, Wits Business School, Parktown, Johannesburg.

The Management Development Programme was conceptualised between the Wits Business School and the Department of Home Affairs in 2010 in support of government’s commitment to developing a capable state in the service of its people.

To this end, the WITS Business School has also developed a middle and new management development programme to enable managers in the department, at all levels, to acquire the necessary skills required to support the development and retention of public servants within government. The department has since the introduction of the programme trained 133 managers at various levels.

Amongst others, and including the development of leadership capability in managers, the programme also focuses on gender issues and prioritises the acceptance of female managers into the programme. This is also in line with the country’s commitment to gender parity and the empowerment of women in leadership roles as a critical element of our developmental agenda.

In this regard, the department has consistently ensured that 60% of the managers on the Senior Management Development Programme, the Middle Management Development Programme and New Management Development programme are women.
