Minister Nzimande launches the Vhembe District Skills Development Project

The Minister of Higher Education and Training, Dr. Blade Nzimande, MP, will on Wednesday, 30 April 2014, launch of the Vhembe District Skills Development Project in the Limpopo province. The Minister will be joined by the Premier of Limpopo, Mr Stan Mathabatha, and Members of the Executive Council (MECs).

The Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) has, through National Skills Fund (NSF), dedicated over R26 million to this project, training 2 188 beneficiaries. The University of Venda, Vhembe District Municipality, Vhembe TVET College and the Madzivhandila Agricultural College have partnered to ensure the successful delivery of the project. 

The Project has skills programmes for the development of cooperatives, learnerships, artisan development programmes, career guidance and other offerings. To date, more than 500 members of cooperatives have benefited from various skills programmes. As a further indication of the success of the project, 200 learners who have been certified by the Agricultural Sector Education and Training Authority (AgriSETA) will be graduating on the day.

At the event, entities of the department, institutions of higher learning in Limpopo, TVET (former FET) colleges, SETAs and other stakeholders will provide information on study opportunities, funding, opportunities for self-employment, skills courses and other offerings.
