Minister Kiviet’s Outreach Visit to Focus on Integrated Service Delivery in the Gamtoots Valley of the Eastern Cape Province
Between the 25th and 26th of July 2023, the Minister for Public Service and Administration, Ms Noxolo Kiviet, will visit two schools to raise awareness of social ills facing youth in the Gamtoots Valley and also promote integrated service delivery as part of her 2023 outreach programme. The two-day programme aims to raise awareness of social issues in Patensie and Hankey secondary schools, including drug abuse, bullying, and teenage pregnancies, which have root causes in the social and economic challenges that the communities face. Moreover, the outreach visit in the area will also offer an opportunity to encourage integrated service delivery and the District Development Model approach to serving communities.
These will be practically tested through the provision of “Services on Wheels” in partnership with provincial and local stakeholders, including the Kouga Local Municipality, provincial departments of education, social development, the Social Security Agency, the South African Police Service and community-based organisations. Minister Kiviet’s two-day programme will begin at Hankey Secondary School on the 25th of July, 2023, starting at 9 am. She will engage learners, educators and school governing body officials, followed by walks about and engaging community members accessing the various Services-on-Wheels offering on the days. A similar order of proceedings will be applicable when Minister Kiviet visits Patensie Secondary School the next day, the 26th of July 2023.
