Minister Mapisa-Nqakula attends ACIRC ministerial meeting hosted by South Africa

The Minister of Defence and Military Veterans, Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula will join ministers of defence, military chiefs and experts for the 4th Ministerial Meeting of the African Capacity for Immediate Response to Crisis (ACIRC). Ministers from all volunteering nations are expected to be in attendance. Participating countries are Algeria, Angola, Benin, Chad, Burkina Faso, Egypt, Mozambique, Niger, Rwanda, Senegal, South Africa, Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda.

The ACIRC force is an idea that was  proposed following an initiative from South Africa in 2013. It is a temporary multinational interventionist standby force. It was established in an effort to equip the AU with a rapid combat force capable of deploying almost immediately in times of crisis and give it autonomy to decide where and when military intervention is needed in Africa.

Important decisions likely to have a huge impact on the current peace and security landscape in Africa will be taken in the meeting, said Minister Mapisa-Nqakula.
