Minister Nkosinathi Nhleko briefs Parliament on IPID leadership issue, 12 May

The Portfolio Committee Police will on Tuesday, 12 May 2015 receive a briefing from the Police Minister on the matter concerning the suspension of the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) Executive Director, Mr Robert McBride, and the related disciplinary processes.

This follows an invitation from the Portfolio Committee this week to the Minister to brief the Committee on the matter. Committee Chairperson, Mr Francois Beukman, welcomed the prompt response from the Minister. He added that the purpose of the meeting was to get a status update on the suspension of the Executive Director and the subsequent processes to ensure stability in the leadership of the IPID.

Mr Beukman said that IPID played a pivotal role in investigating criminal conduct by SAPS and the Municipal Police Service. As such, Committee members wanted assurances from the Minister that proper measures were in place for the IPID to continue with its work unhindered.

Details of the meeting are as follows:

Date: Tuesday, 12 May 2015
Time: 10h00
Venue: Committee Room GH41, Ground Floor, Good Hope Building, Parliament
